The Loop Condominiums is an upscale renovation of a University City landmark, previously known as Donaldson Court. The Donaldson Court Apartment Complex was built in 1922 offering new housing to the rapidly expanding University City population. The complex was listed individually on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983 for its innovative system of poured-in-place, reinforced concrete construction (known as the Donaldson System invented by Charles W. Donaldson, developer of the project). This type of construction resulted in an absolutely fireproof building; in addition, the hollow wall construction was designed to keep the units cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
This style of building was a striking contrast to the brick buildings that surrounded it when it was built in 1922. The building is also notable for its 1936 Art Deco façade along Delmar, which incorporates terra cotta panels with classic Art Deco motifs such as chevrons, waves and stylized plants.
The unique architecture of the building and the convenient location make it an exciting opportunity for condominium living. |
